OHL Construction Manager

Our client is seeking three Construction Managers to play a vital role in the safe and successful delivery of Overhead Line (OHL) projects across National Grid and wider UK transmission infrastructure programmes.

This is a high-impact site leadership position, responsible for managing construction teams, subcontract partners and stakeholders to deliver outstanding safety, quality, programme and commercial performance on projects ranging from £1m to £100m.

We welcome applications from experienced Construction Managers with a strong OHL background, as well as ambitious Project Engineers ready to step up into a Construction Manager role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion a strong safety-first culture and ensure compliance with HSEQ, CDM and client requirements

  • Plan, coordinate and manage all OHL construction activities including towers/poles, foundations, stringing and outage works

  • Deliver works in line with National Grid Supplier Requirements, Technical Specifications and site standards

  • Lead supervisors, direct labour and subcontract partners to achieve safe and efficient delivery

  • Develop and manage short-term programmes, lookaheads and daily work plans

  • Ensure works are delivered Right First Time, meeting quality and client expectations

  • Monitor progress, manage risks and resolve site constraints

  • Build strong interfaces with National Grid representatives, stakeholders and project teams

  • Support commercial performance, resource planning and cost control

  • Coach and develop engineers and supervisors to strengthen team capability

  • Promote company values, behaviours and professional standards on site

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience delivering OHL construction projects

  • Proven leadership of OHL site teams and subcontractors

  • Experience working on National Grid or major UK transmission networks

  • Strong knowledge of OHL construction methods, sequencing and outage planning

  • Practical experience implementing National Grid Supplier Requirements and Technical Specifications

  • SMSTS

  • Relevant OHL Persons / National Grid competencies

  • CSCS (Management level)

  • Strong planning, organisational and communication skills with excellent safety leadership
